Skills Centers

Once a week during Skills Block, we bring out Skills Centers for the children to practice.  These are hands-on activities that encourage the children to practice the skills we have been working on.

Sign of the Times

Today we practiced evacuating our campus in case of emergency. We are just so fortunate to have a neighbor like the Church at Chet's Creek that could house our entire school if the worst ever happened! You would have been so proud of your kids! Safety first!

We had an A-maize-Ing Day

Our class had a blast at Conner's A-Maize-Ing Acres. From hay rides to getting lost in the corn maize the kids enjoyed a great day. I think they will sleep well tonight.

Tying My Shoes

Many of our students come to kindergarten already knowing how to tie their shoes.  Other parents simply ignore the problem by sending their child to school in Velcros!  But at some time, children need to learn to tie their own shoes.  We are posting this video because this is the simplest way we have ever seen to teach children to tie their shoes!  Let us know if it works for you!

Comparing Names

In math we have been figuring out how many letters are in our names. Next we compared our names with that of our friends. Who has a longer name? Shorter name?

Class Pet

Guess who got a new class pet? We did!  Her name is Kisses and she's a hamster!

Writers' Workshop Keeps Movin' Along

We are so proud of our kindergartners as they are finishing their first genre in writing - Teaching Books.  The children have been writing books about things they know a lot about and let me tell you, they know a lot of stuff!  We have worked up to 15 minutes of quiet independent writing.  We know how to close our eyes and think about a topic, how to select the right paper for what we want to write, how to plan by touching each page and thinking about what we want to say on each page,  how to start with a picture and add details, how to add words by stretching them out and writing the sounds that we hear, how to use the word wall (on the ceiling!) how to add labels to our pictures,  how to ask questions and get suggestions from a partner, how to staple our pages together, how to use a date stamp and how to put our first and last name on our books.  We are a community of writers!

...And the little dog laughed!

We have been acting out the nursery rhyme Hey Diddle Diddle. And the little dog laughed!
